CHEER CHAPTER WANTS GIRLS TO HAVE A PROM DRESS

Halle Schade (President of the CHEER Chapter of flood) wants every girl to experience Prom. This is her story of how the CHEER Chapter of flood is going to bring that reality to a few blessed girls.
“Prom is an exciting event for high-school students. Personally, I love all things prom! Girls love shopping for the perfect dress. They go from store to store. I was out shopping with friends and trying on dresses. When I started looking at the price tags on these dresses, I was shocked. Prom dresses are expensive to begin with but these prices made me cringe. Things are tight for most families right now. An expensive dress isn’t in the budget for a lot of girls. I am the president of CHEER Flood which is a chapter of Flood Student Missions. I spend as much time as I can serving my community. Sometimes we forget that there are people out there who are hurting and struggling to make ends meet. This is what inspired me for this project.
We all want to feel like Cinderella on our prom night! That’s why we spend hours shopping and trying on as many dresses as we can. There are girls who will skip prom because they can’t afford a dress. I want every girl to feel like Cinderella on her prom night. It’s a fun experience you can only have while you are in high school. I decided that I was going to try and give every girl her dream dress. With the help of my friends and community, I am collecting 50+ dresses to give to girls who can’t afford their own.
We will be hosting a Benefit Fashion Show on March 3rd from 7-9pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. We will be giving away the dresses to the girls who need them. We will also be auctioning off a few dresses. We will have live music, skits, and more! All of CHEER Flood has been working so hard since the beginning of the year to make this happen. I can’t thank everyone enough for all their help. This wouldn’t be happening if I didn’t have the support of my family, friends, and community. We are still collecting dresses! If you are interested in donating, please contact us! We have a Facebook page you can “like” called CHEER Flood’s Prom Dress Drive and Benefit Fashion Show. We have pictures of the dresses and updates about the show on our page.”
NEW PROJECTS AND NEW CHAPTERS!!

The year 2012 is underway and flood is introducing some new projects on the calendar. Partnering with Meals by Grace , flood will offer students the chance to help cook, pack, and deliver meals to families in Forsyth County living in poverty. Also added to the calendar will be Bingo at the Roswell Nursing home (a sister home to Chestnut Ridge that flood currently serves). Lastly, when the weather warms, flood will offer more regular opportunities to serve at Homestretch by continuing to do yard work and home maintenance projects. Flood will also offer students the chance to outreach with the children living in the Homestretch community by taking a picnic lunch and games to play outside. Students can register for any projects on the website at www.floodstudentmissions.org/serve-now
Believe it or not, as we look at the back side of the school year, flood student leaders are looking ahead! They are currently assessing new leaders and who will step in for seniors that graduate. In addition to establishing leaders for next year in the current school chapters, any students wishing to start a NEW chapter should contact flood to receive a School Chapter Start-up Packet. flood would like to see new school chapters next year at West Forsyth, Forsyth Central, North Forsyth, Johns Creek, the new Cambridge HS, and Alpharetta. It is through the school chapters that student leaders have the opportunity to reach out to other students and engage them in serving and seeing first hand how God can transform their lives and the community! Anyone interested in starting a new chapter should contact flood at 770-289-1834 or email kscales@floodstudentmissions.org
FLOOD WEEK IS FULL OF LIFE LESSONS

The first annual flood week proved to be full of life lessons as chapters brought a greater awareness of flood and it’s mission to the community and their schools. Student chapter leaders were challenged in lessons of communication, planning, time management, delegation of duties, marketing, and the power of prayer. As always though, God uses everything for good and these lessons can be used as learning tools for future leadership opportunities. All in all, the entire week was AMAZING! One lady was actually rescued off the streets by two of our Milton Chapter Leaders at Safehouse Outreach and taken to 7 Bridges to Recovery (both our community partners)! All week, new students emerged as they witnessed first hand what the heart of flood is all about – “It isn’t a logo or a name of an organization or club. It’s a movement that allows God’s love to transform your (a student’s) heart by serving EVERYONE in your life – even those that it seems just to hard to serve.”
Hear what students are saying about flood week…..
“During flood week, I loved seeing students not only willing to serve downtown at projects, but also excited about serving our own school! Teacher appreciation went really well, but I think my favorite thing was helping the janitors after school. Lots of students showed up and they were so grateful to have our help! We ended up spending a lot of time cleaning trash up from around the portables, which really made a noticeable difference. Flood week also built a better sense of community among our chapter, especially with some new younger students.”
“Helping the Custodians after school was probably the best because we got to do something that we and alot of people usually ignore. None of us think about how much they do for us and now were alot more aware.”
“I LOVED the STORM!! Seriously it was so awesome. God was glorified and that’s all that matters. His presence was there as the truth was spoken in boldness and excitement built for what God is going to do in and through us!”
” The Night of prayer on Monday was INCREDIBLE! We definitely need to do that way more often God is so good!”
The CHEER homeschool chapter who visited at a nursing home passing out stuff animals and did yard work for a family in need (and all in the same day!)
“Words can’t express how incredible this weekend was. I am so thankful for everyone who came out to serve with us!! Thank you thank you thank you!! We made a real difference in those people’s lives. I love all of y’all so much!! Thank you for staying the extra time and working hard!”
SOUTH FORSYTH GETS READY FOR STREET REACH

Today was no ordinary day @ South Forsyth HS as 80 students met in the West Hall to SERVE! As students signed in and checked out the t-shirts and decals, the leadership team prepared to engage all 80 students in the meeting. The prayer leader started off with a great devotional then students began decorating 100 lunch bags and stuffing them with snacks. South students will use those snack bags this Saturday for their first focus project- STREET REACH. Students were able to sign up right then for the project this Saturday and prepare their hearts for serving. Now, getting transportation for all those students downtown is another story! We can’t wait to see what they will do at their next meeting, and the next, and the next…….
Chapter Coordinator, Vicky Egan, was blown away at the hearts of the student leaders and those that came out to serve. “What a blessed morning at South High this morning! They are ready for Street Reach this Saturday! 100 bags ready to go
You are a blessing to me! Continue living BOLD for Christ! Ya’ll ROCK!”
80 STUDENTS SHOW UP AT FLOOD’S 1ST MEETING @ ROSWELL

Chapter President, Brittany Phillips, never imagined that 80 students would show up at the first flood meeting @ Roswell HS. As students came down the hall, the leadership team greeted them with smiles. As students kept pouring in, the smile on Brittany’s face kept growing and growing. With students sitting in the floor, lining the walls, and standing in the hallway, it became clear that God was going to do something BIG this year RHS.
After Brittany’s introduction of flood and casting the vision for RHS, Christian Bruckman (one of the VP’s) navigated the website to show students how to register for on-going projects as well as Roswell’s 1st focus project with Street Reach. In addition to local missions, Brittany told the group that they would decide what projects they wanted to do together. The vision for the RHS chapter to love on those in the school was also made very clear. From loving on a student who recently experienced a horrible tragedy, to monthly teacher appreciation projects, and random acts of kindness, it appears that the RHS community will “get flooded.” This chapter, along with Milton, has decided to meet every other week in order to make a greater impact on the school and local community.
After the meeting, Brittany shared her heart with me about her passion and vision for flood @ RHS. As I listened to what God had placed in her heart for her school, students, and the community, I just cried. Students experience so much pain through divorce, stress of getting into college, peer pressure, managing schedules, drugs, pressure to have sex, feeling misunderstood by their parents, and so much more. Showing them the amazing love of their Savior Jesus Christ and his ability to heal their hearts can be started by simply turning on the faucet- showing love, serving them, and getting them to serve- and letting God flood their hearts. Brittany and the leadership team at RHS are ready to do just that!
Today, I was humbled as I saw first hand how flood (and the heart of our student leaders) can change the culture of their school and the hearts of its students. I am overwhelmed by him, his power, and his LOVE!
SOUTH FORSYTH HIGH SCHOOL IS BACK!

Over the last summer, Vikey Egan (chapter coordinator) and student leaders from last year at South Forsyth High School, have been praying! They have been praying big. The chapter at South had experienced some challanges last year in getting students to come to the meetings and participate. After hours of planning and reaching out to the school, things just couldn’t come together for the chapter. Yet, everyone kept praying and sensed that something was just not right and all the time trusting that God would come through.
Ms. Vicky started talking to individual students about flood and serving in a leader role. After an initial meeting this summer, she held a second meeting yesterday after school and TWELVE students showed up interested in serving. While all of this was going on, we learned of another student who had already gone to the teacher sponsor about keeping the chapter alive at South. Without any knowledge of what flood was about (except that we serve in the community), and how it is a much larger ministry that he thought, he offerred to help lead the chapter at South and had already pulled some student leaders together!. So, in one day, we had over 15 students interested in leading the chapter at South!! God is just crazy good like that!
So, right now, both groups of students will come together, get a better understanding of leading a chapter at their school, look at the different officer and leader roles for a chapter, define who will serve in those roles, have their first official leader meeting, and then plan for their kick-off meeting in September. Both groups came together for the Club Blitz today and had a swarm of students interested and signing up for flood. We will keep you posted on what happens with this chapter that God literally brought together at the very last minute. Both groups of students are the answer to months of prayer. I hope they realize that!
New Chapter at Roswell High School

Roswell High School has done “chapter start-up” textbook style. Several months ago, Brittany Phillips (currently a junior at RHS), approached flood about starting a chapter at RHS. After receiving the chapter start-up packet and doing some serious praying, Brittany had Kimberly Scales (Executive Director for flood) come and speak to FCA about helping get the chapter going. It was a couple of days later when flood received a text from Brittany that said, “flood is an offical chapter at RHS!!!” We could instantly feel God moving and preparing the hearts of students at Roswell. Students were excited to get started and in April over 20 students and adult leaders came out to serve at STREET REACH. It was an impressive first project for this new school and it isn’t even the 2011-2012 school year! We are excited to see what God will do at Roswell and our other chapters next year. Please pray for our student leaders as th
